Today's PlayStation State of Play livestream unveiled our first official look at "007 First Light," IO Interactive's upcoming James Bond title scheduled for 2026 - the same studio behind the Hitman series.
The cinematic trailer introduces a young, newly-recruited James Bond during his early days as a MI6 operative, marking the character's origin story.
Notably, the trailer confirms Lennie James from The Walking Dead will feature in a supporting role, though his character details remain undisclosed.
The "007 First Light" trailer reveals a pivotal childhood trauma: Bond witnessed his parents' tragic death at age 11 during a mountain climbing accident, where they sacrificed themselves by cutting their ropes to save him, leaving young James to descend alone.
Originally announced as "Project 007" in 2020, IO Interactive's ambitious Bond project has maintained secrecy over the years. The studio emphasized from the outset their commitment to crafting an original origin narrative, unconnected to existing Bond film continuity.
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently hinted at plans to expand "007 First Light" into a full trilogy, though development has temporarily sidelined their acclaimed Hitman franchise. April 2024 brought confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 version alongside PC, PlayStation, and Xbox releases.
More details emerging soon...
