The cards unveiled today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet, nestled within the larger main set. These cards are reprints of existing Magic: The Gathering cards, reimagined with concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new mechanics or unique cards like those in the recently revealed Commander decks, they offer a nostalgic journey through the visual legacy of Final Fantasy, reaching back to the very first game in the series.

Unlike the cards in the main set, the Through the Ages cards do not become legal in Magic's Standard format (though they remain so if the original card was already legal). These cards serve as alternate art versions, enhancing your collection with unique visuals. You can find them in both the premium Collector Boosters and in one out of every three regular Play Boosters, which are perfect for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.
If you're planning to dive deep into this set, whether at your local game store or online via Magic: The Gathering Arena, you're likely to encounter these cards regularly. Five of these six cards are Rares, making them less common, but the Uncommon card, Thrum of the Vestige, is a reskin of the widely recognized Lightning Bolt, potentially making it a standout in the set.
The Warrior of Light reprinting of Jodah, the Unifier, is poised to be a fan favorite. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the artwork here is Amano's iconic piece from the original Final Fantasy's Japanese boxart. Similarly, Amano's legendary art for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey adorns Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, previously reprinted only once.
These cards will be available in physical form as part of the broader Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're not yet a Magic enthusiast but a fan of Final Fantasy, there's plenty to be excited about. Tetsuya Nomura, director of the FF7 Remake series, hinted that Sephiroth's design on one of the cards holds a mysterious significance, adding an extra layer of intrigue to this already thrilling crossover.
