Amazon Restocks Pokémon TCG Premium Collection: Is It a Good Buy?

Author : Zoey May 25,2025

Amazon has once again raised eyebrows with its pricing of Pokémon cards, notably the Prismatic Evolutions Super Premium Collection, listed at a whopping $259.99. This is nearly three times the product's Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $89.99, marking a staggering 189% increase. For context, last year, Walmart offered the same set for a much more reasonable $59.99.

If you're determined to add this set to your collection, TCG Player provides a more palatable option, pricing the box at $224.43 (Market Price). While still a hefty sum, this represents a saving of over $35 compared to Amazon's price, which can make a significant difference at this level.

However, if you're looking for alternatives, consider building your own collection. The Super Premium Collection comes with 15 booster packs, but you could opt for two Prismatic Evolutions Booster Bundles (12 packs each) for around $137.98, or three bundles for $206.92 to get 18 packs. This approach offers more cards for less money, though you'll miss out on the collector's box and additional items.

Another strategy is to bypass the randomness of packs altogether. With the value of Prismatic Evolutions singles currently declining, now could be the perfect time to purchase the specific cards you want. The key takeaway? Big-box retailers are currently the least favorable option for buying Pokémon cards, and the secondary market is keenly aware of this.

While some top-tier cards like Roaring Moon ex SIR and Vaporeon ex SIR maintain or increase their value, many other high-value cards from Prismatic Evolutions are seeing significant price drops. This presents a prime opportunity for collectors.

It might seem counterintuitive to call cards priced over $200 a 'deal', but consider this: the odds of pulling a Special Illustration Rare from this set are slim due to the presence of Pokéball and Masterball reverse holos filling the rare slots. With booster packs priced over $10 each, the chances of striking gold are low.

For instance, Sylveon ex SIR has plummeted 28% in just a few weeks, from $562.60 in early May to around $400 for a near-mint copy. If you've had your eye on it, now might be the ideal time to buy before prices potentially recover. It's unlikely you'll pull this card from a single $260 Super Premium Collection box.

Be cautious of prices above MSRP, as the market for Pokémon cards is currently volatile. Generally, TCG Player offers better deals than big-box retailers in this environment.
