Apple is reportedly developing a new game-centric application designed to cater specifically to gamers. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, this move aligns with earlier whispers from late last year indicating Apple's ambition to position itself as a key player in the gaming industry. The report suggests that more details will emerge during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled for June 9.
It is anticipated that the app will be pre-installed on all new Apple smart devices, including Apple TV, later this year. Much like Steam on PCs, the app aims to serve as a game launcher, consolidating in-game achievements, leaderboards, chats, and other interactive features while replacing the current "Game Center." Bloomberg speculates that a Mac version will also be available to access games installed outside the App Store.
Although Apple has not officially commented on these rumors, the acquisition of RAC7 Games, the developer behind "Sneaky Sasquatch," adds intrigue.
