Ubisoft has unveiled new details about the gameplay mechanics of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, focusing on the equipment and progression systems for Yasuke and Naoe. A highlight is the enhanced functionality of the iconic Hidden Blade, a welcome addition for longtime fans.

Yasuke and Naoe each boast unique skill trees reflecting their distinct combat styles: Yasuke's focuses on samurai techniques, while Naoe's emphasizes shinobi skills. Players allocate skill points to unlock weapon-specific abilities and refine fighting styles. Mastery points, earned by completing open-world objectives and defeating challenging enemies like Daisyo samurai, fuel this progression.

Balanced character growth is ensured; neither Yasuke nor Naoe will fall significantly behind the other. Unlocking powerful abilities often requires specific actions, such as tracking down a mysterious shinobi group. Other upgrades are tied to the "Knowledge" scale, advanced by studying manuscripts or praying at shrines. Reaching Knowledge rank six unlocks a new skill tree.

The equipment system features five quality tiers: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. Gear can be upgraded by a blacksmith and visually customized. Special armor and weapon perks can significantly alter gameplay.

The Hidden Blade returns as a devastating tool, capable of instantly eliminating enemies with a single strike. Assassin's Creed: Shadows launches worldwide on March 20th for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
