Nintendo and GameStop have responded to the Switch 2 launch day problem where consoles with cracked screens were sold to customers after receipts were stapled to the boxes.
Impacted customers have informed IGN that GameStop has started providing replacement Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sourced from other local stores.
The U.S. retailer also released a brief statement on the incident, which Nintendo referred to when IGN reached out for comment. It clarified that GameStop staff only damaged a number of consoles at a single location.
"We have resolved an isolated incident involving staples damaging Switch 2 screens at one store," GameStop stated in a social media post.
"We have offered replacements and confiscated staplers," the post continued, accompanied by a clip from the 1999 comedy film Office Space showing a boss taking a stapler from an employee's desk.
We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens—isolated to one store.

Several customers who attended the Switch 2 midnight launch at GameStop's Forest Avenue store in Staten Island discovered their console screens were punctured by staples when they opened their new purchases.
Some criticized the store's method of attaching receipts with staples, while others noted the design of the Switch 2 packaging, which places the console's main unit against the side of a thin cardboard box with the screen facing outward.
"I saw this coming," another fan posted on social media. "It was an odd choice by Nintendo to position the screen face-up right at the top of the box, protected only by flimsy cardboard. We'll likely hear more reports of damaged screens soon. The consoles are vulnerable just from being stacked during shipping."
IGN has reached out to Nintendo and GameSpot to ask if other stores have been instructed to avoid similar practices, and whether the packaging could be revised to better protect Switch 2 consoles from staples or other damage.
"GameStop handled it well for me," one customer told IGN after receiving a damaged Switch 2 at the midnight launch. "They exchanged it for a new console. They must have sent a shipment of Switch 2 units to that store today to address the staple issue."
Another customer, who also had their console replaced, mentioned they were told GameStop acted swiftly to bring in spare stock from nearby stores to provide replacements.
