Bloodborne PSX Demake Faces Copyright Claim; 60fps Mod Creator Shares 'Copium' Remake Theory

Author : Liam Apr 16,2025

The Bloodborne PSX demake, a fan-made project, has recently faced a copyright claim, following a similar issue with the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Lance McDonald, the creator of the Bloodborne 60fps mod, shared that he received a takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment four years after his mod's release, prompting him to remove all links to the patch. Similarly, Lilith Walther, the mind behind Nightmare Kart and the Bloodborne PSX demake, reported that a YouTube video showcasing the demake was hit with a copyright claim by MarkScan Enforcement, a company hired by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

McDonald expressed his confusion and frustration over these actions, questioning Sony's motives, especially since the Bloodborne PSX demake video targeted was old. He speculated that these moves might be part of Sony's strategy to clear the path for an official 60fps remake of Bloodborne, theorizing that Sony might want to trademark terms like "Bloodborne 60fps" and "Bloodborne remake" without competition from fan projects.

Bloodborne, developed by FromSoftware and released on the PS4, has garnered immense acclaim and a dedicated fanbase eager for enhancements like a 60fps patch, a remaster, or even a sequel. Despite fan efforts, such as achieving a 60fps experience on PC via PS4 emulation, Sony has not yet made any official announcements regarding Bloodborne's future. This silence has led to speculation and theories, including former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida's belief that FromSoftware's director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, might be protective of the game due to his personal attachment, potentially preventing further development by others.

Despite these developments, there remains no concrete indication from Sony about revisiting Bloodborne. However, Miyazaki has acknowledged that the game could benefit from being updated for modern hardware, leaving fans hopeful yet uncertain about the future of this beloved title.
