Cyberpunk 2077 fans were once buzzing with excitement over the possibility of a space-themed DLC that would have taken the game to the Moon. Thanks to the diligent work of blogger and dataminer SirMZK, we've gotten a glimpse into CD Projekt RED’s ambitious plans that were ultimately shelved. By digging into the game's code, SirMZK uncovered references to lunar surface maps, detailed zones such as an Exterior Movie Set and a Drug Lab, and even a model of a rover. This Moon location was envisioned to be vast, potentially covering a quarter of Night City's size, offering an expansive open-world experience that would have transported players far beyond the familiar neon-lit streets.
One of the standout features of this planned expansion was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, keen-eyed players can catch a fleeting glimpse of the Crystal Palace in one of the endings, as V looks out of a spaceship window. Additionally, the game files revealed a prototype for a zero-gravity bar, which was part of a cut quest called "201" linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Despite the Moon DLC being a missed opportunity, fans hold onto hope that these innovative concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED’s next project, Orion, which aims to further explore the Cyberpunk universe. However, there's no official word yet from the studio on whether these ideas will be revisited.
Though the Moon DLC remains a dream deferred, the uncovered details offer a tantalizing look at what could have been—an audacious venture for Cyberpunk 2077 that would have pushed the boundaries of its cyberpunk universe into the realm of space exploration.
