Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gets Surprise Free Weapon DLC After Months Without an Update

Although BioWare has largely shifted focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the dedicated team still managing the project recently surprised fans by introducing a new DLC weapons pack. The RPG's Steam page was updated to announce the Rook's Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on that has left the Dragon Age community buzzing with excitement. Given EA's previous statements suggesting minimal future support for the game, this unexpected addition feels like a delightful bonus. Especially since the fifth patch in January indicated that future updates would primarily address critical bugs, any new content, however small, is a welcome surprise.

Interestingly, the Rook's Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who buy it on PC before April 8, 2025. While the bundle's contents remain unspecified, players have discovered it includes a set of Watchful skins accessible in their Rook's in-game room. It's unclear whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

A Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" On Reddit, a user commented, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched in October to positive reviews but, according to EA, did not capture a wide enough audience. Key members of the development team announced their departure from BioWare in late January, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned to other projects within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio was now fully focused on the next installment of the Mass Effect series.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles just four months after its release. No further plans for the game's future have been disclosed.
