Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
Fallout 76's latest update invites players to experience the game as a Ghoul. Bethesda announced on March 18 that Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," is now live, introducing an array of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and fresh cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P.
In this update, players can transform into a Ghoul via Ghoulification, initiated through the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey leads players to an unexplored section of the Savage Divide, where they'll encounter new characters pivotal to their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering different boosts based on the Feral meter's level. However, if it reaches 0%, gameplay shifts dramatically with effects such as "+150% Melee Damage, -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
Conversely, the Glow ability allows players to harness radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and a literal glow. It boosts maximum health, heals damage, and synergizes with Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."
There are 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these benefits are redundant for them.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-soaked wasteland becomes more manageable as a Ghoul, thanks to the unique Gherks and abilities. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may react hostilely, potentially blocking access to some questlines.
To circumvent these limitations, players can use disguises provided by the new NPC, Jaye, allowing interaction with otherwise inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a permanent decision. To become a Ghoul again, players must spend 1000 Atoms for a Ghoul Retransformation.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're new to the wasteland or a seasoned veteran, the Level 50 Character Boost in the Season 20 update can kickstart your journey. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost equips players with the necessary perks and boosts to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content.
The update also includes various bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as enhancements in accessibility, combat balancing, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also teased the next update, "The Big Bloom," set for April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is accessible on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
