Life is Strange Feedback Sought by Square Enix

Square Enix Seeks Fan Input After Life is Strange: Double Exposure's Underwhelming Reception

Following the less-than-stellar reception of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Square Enix has launched a survey to gather feedback from fans of the series. The survey aims to understand key aspects of the game's performance and inform the development of future Life is Strange titles.

The October 2024 release of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, a continuation of Max Caulfield's story, initially held promise. However, the game received mixed reviews, scoring a 73 from critics and a 4.2 from users on Metacritic. This lukewarm reception, attributed to significant narrative choices, has prompted Square Enix's investigation.

Further complicating matters, developer Deck Nine Studios announced layoffs in December 2024. In response, Square Enix distributed a 15-minute questionnaire to fans, seeking input on various aspects of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, including narrative, gameplay, technical performance, and overall value. The survey also probes players' interest in future installments of the series.

Analyzing the Fallout: Why Did Double Exposure Fall Short?

The less-than-enthusiastic response to Life is Strange: Double Exposure contrasts sharply with the positive reception of its predecessor, Life is Strange: True Colors. True Colors' compelling narrative and protagonist, Alex Chen, resonated strongly with players, a success Double Exposure failed to replicate. Square Enix clearly anticipated a more positive outcome for Double Exposure, making the survey's results crucial in understanding the game's shortcomings.

While Life is Strange: Double Exposure hinted at potential storylines for future games, the community feedback collected by Square Enix will likely significantly shape the direction of the series. The balance between fan expectations and creative vision remains a key consideration for the franchise's future.
