Is Marvel Rivals Doing a Mid Season Rank Reset for Season 1?

Author : Alexander Mar 25,2025

The upcoming major update for *Marvel Rivals* has sparked some confusion around a potential rank reset, a topic that often stirs debate among players eager to maintain their hard-earned standings. So, is there going to be a rank reset in *Marvel Rivals* for Season 1? Let's dive into the details.

In the world of live-service games, a rank reset at the start of each season is common practice. It levels the playing field, allowing players to adapt to new changes and climb the ranks anew. Games like *Marvel Rivals* usually see updates every few months, giving players ample time to reach their desired rank before a reset. However, NetEase Games, the developer behind *Marvel Rivals*, often deviates from the norm.

Originally, NetEase announced that a rank reset would accompany the mid-season update for Season 1, scheduled for February 21, 2025. This was to coincide with the introduction of two new heroes, The Thing and Human Torch, which could significantly shift the game's meta. However, the community's reaction was overwhelmingly negative, prompting NetEase to reconsider their approach.

In response to player feedback, NetEase released a statement saying, “After the release of Dev Talk 10 regarding the seasonal rank adjustment, we received a wealth of feedback from the community. A common concern was the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season, which has made participating in competitive mode less enjoyable. In light of the community’s input, we have decided to make some changes to optimize the rank system.”

The revised plan is clear: “When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season. Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All.”

This decision is great news for players, especially those in the top ranks, as it provides an additional month and a half to compete at the highest level. It's also a testament to NetEase's commitment to listening to their community. Adapting to player feedback is no small feat, but NetEase's actions during Season 1 show they're keenly attuned to what their players want.
