MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. The announcement, made via the official Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, and detailed on the game's website, confirmed that Season 5 will be the game's last content update.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

Launching February 4, 2025, and running until May 30, 2025, Season 5 will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

Offline Play Option Remains

A silver lining for fans: offline play will remain available via local gameplay mode, supporting solo play against AI or multiplayer with up to three friends. To access this, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus between February 4, 9 AM PST and May 30, 9 AM PDT. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5's end.

A Short but Action-Packed Run

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity as a free-to-play fighting game, drawing comparisons to Super Smash Bros. while offering a unique 2v2 team-based format. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, including characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode. Despite these improvements, the game faced challenges including technical issues and player dissatisfaction with microtransactions, leading to reported significant player drops in July 2024.

Upon its closure on May 30, 9 AM PDT, MultiVersus will leave behind a legacy of 35 playable characters from diverse franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. Until then, the game remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
