Phasmophobia’s Survival of the Fittest Weekly Challenge is one of the most intense and terrifying ways to test your skills in the game. With no evidence, no sanity, and a relentless ghost lurking in the shadows, surviving—and succeeding—requires strategy, courage, and sharp observation. Here’s everything you need to know to conquer this harrowing challenge.

Survival of the Fittest stands out as one of the most demanding challenges in Phasmophobia. As the description states, you must correctly identify the ghost type—without any traditional evidence and starting at zero sanity. This means no Ghost Writing Books, no DOTs Projectors, and no Video Cameras. The odds are stacked against you from the start.
The challenge takes place exclusively at 42 Edgefield Road, a compact, house-style map known for its tight hallways, narrow corners, and oppressive atmosphere. These layout features make both tracking the ghost and escaping hunts significantly more difficult, adding to the tension with every step.
Tips & Tricks To Complete Survival of the Fittest in Phasmophobia

You begin the challenge with a severely limited equipment loadout. Without standard tools for gathering evidence, you’ll need to rely on alternative methods to identify the ghost.
Pay close attention to the ghost’s behavior, movement speed, model appearance, and unique traits. Use the tools you are given to gather indirect clues:
- The Parabolic Microphone can help identify a Banshee by its distinct scream or detect the frequent sounds of a Myling.
- Sprinkling Salt on the floor may reveal a Wraith if it walks over it and leaves no footprints.
- Lighting three Firelights in succession might provoke an Onryo, giving away its presence.

You’re given only five seconds of setup time and start with zero sanity, making you immediately vulnerable to ghost hunts. Even more punishing, sanity cannot be restored—not even with the two Sanity Medications provided, which are essentially useless in this mode.
Despite the lack of equipment, the ghost remains in a state of high activity throughout the investigation. Events occur frequently, offering valuable insight into its behavior. While most doors are partially open, making it harder to track the ghost’s movement, the fuse box is functional and starts powered on—a rare advantage in challenge modes.
All nine hiding spots in 42 Edgefield Road are available, so use them wisely during hunts to survive.

You’re given one specific Cursed Possession: the Monkey Paw. While risky, it can be a game-changer. Using it to “wish for knowledge” will burn out incorrect evidence and ghost types in your Journal, helping you eliminate possibilities and identify the correct ghost.
However, the price is steep: you’ll be blinded and deafened, and a Cursed Hunt will trigger nearby. This strategy is best used in multiplayer, where one player can sacrifice themselves while others continue the investigation.
How to Access Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia

Challenge Mode is a rotating weekly task accessible through the Difficulty Settings in the Main Menu. Start by selecting either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to create a lobby. Then, go to the Difficulty tab above your character ID.
Scroll down until you find Challenge Mode, then click Apply to set it as your next investigation. Keep in mind: while Challenge Mode sets the rules, it doesn’t automatically select the map. You must manually choose 42 Edgefield Road from the Maps board on the left.
To earn the full base reward of $5,000, you must complete the same weekly challenge three times. Only correct ghost identification is required—no need to complete optional objectives.
