Nintendo will add another cherished Pokémon game to the Switch's Expansion Pack classic game library. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team launches on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service August 9, as announced today. This classic Pokémon spin-off will be accessible via the Expansion Pack, which features Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis titles.

Globally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a roguelike spin-off where players become a Pokémon. Players explore dungeons and undertake missions to solve the mystery of their transformation. It launched alongside a Blue Rescue Team version for the Nintendo DS and received a Switch remake in 2020 as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

Some speculated the company is resolving compatibility issues with the N64 Transfer Pak, while others suggested problems with NSO's infrastructure, and the Switch's Pokémon Home app integration as likely causes. As Nintendo doesn't fully own the app, certain contractual agreements between the partnering companies may present challenges with its Switch integration. "I'd guess they want to ensure trading is secure and can't be abused," one fan suggested.
