Deadpool Skips Avengers, X-Men, Says Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds Dismisses Deadpool Joining Avengers or X-Men Teams

Ryan Reynolds has thrown cold water on fan expectations of Deadpool officially joining either the Avengers or X-Men, suggesting such a move would mark "the end" for the character. Despite Deadpool & Wolverine's massive success and Wade Wilson's hilarious Avengers obsession in the film, Reynolds believes full team membership would undermine his antihero charm.

Not The Hero We Want, But The Hero We Need

The recent Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement brought back legendary X-Men actors - Kelsey Grammer's Beast, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto - among others, fueling speculation about an Avengers vs. X-Men storyline. Yet Reynolds' name was noticeably absent, with only Deadpool co-star Channing Tatum (Gambit) making the cut.

"If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end," Reynolds told Time. "That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that." However, he hinted at possibly keeping the door open for cameo appearances, praising how well Wesley Snipes' Blade cameo worked in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Future of the Merc With a Mouth

So what's next if not team membership? Reynolds revealed he's currently developing an "ensemble" project while maintaining Deadpool's signature rogue status. "I like that he's isolated," the actor noted, suggesting future films may continue the winning formula of cameo-heavy adventures.

Potential returning faces could include Snipes' Blade, Tatum's Gambit, or Jennifer Garner's Elektra - all of whom appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. The character's future seems destined to stay in that sweet spot between the mainstream MCU and his own anarchic corner of the universe.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday details remain scarce beyond its star-studded cast list. Anthony Mackie (Captain America) recently promised the film would recapture "that old Marvel feeling," while set photo leaks continue fueling fan speculation about the X-Men's fate in the MCU.
