Next month, a total of 22 games will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library, including high-profile titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This move is particularly notable as both Resistance games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final platform to play them without owning a PS3 and the games themselves.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. It also boasts a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games available to Extra and Premium members.
According to Push Square, these 22 games will be removed from the service on May 20, including two significant first-party PS3 titles from Sony, set to leave the PS Plus Premium library. Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 were added to the library towards the end of 2024, making their removal less than a year later quite surprising.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is an alternate history first-person shooter franchise that followed the studio's work on Ratchet and Clank. The series saw three releases on the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.
Sony's decision to remove first-party games from PlayStation Plus is unusual but not unprecedented. A similar move occurred with the shock removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, those games were still available for purchase post-removal, unlike Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which will now be inaccessible on modern consoles.
Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service, alongside the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son, which is also departing from PS Plus.
Insomniac's Resistance series has been inactive for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president Ted Price disclosed efforts to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not receive approval. The series, much like Guerrilla Games' Killzone, has been largely sidelined.
