Spectre Divide has been in the spotlight ever since it was revealed that the renowned streamer and former esports pro, Shroud, was involved in its development. However, having a big name attached doesn't guarantee success. Mountaintop Studios recently announced its closure and the impending shutdown of the shooter's servers.
The studio will officially cease operations by the end of this week, with the servers staying online for just under a month. During this period, the studio has committed to refunding players for their in-game purchases. Despite the efforts, Spectre Divide struggled to draw a substantial audience and generate sufficient revenue to sustain itself.

It's disheartening to witness yet another project falter, but it underscores the immense challenges of penetrating the live-service gaming market. Spectre Divide didn't bring anything revolutionary to the table, which failed to captivate players. Even with Shroud's fame and esports expertise, the game couldn't bridge the divide between top-tier and casual gamers, who have vastly different expectations and priorities.
Ultimately, another esports-centric venture has not met its mark in the competitive world of game development. Press F to pay respects.
