Warner Bros. reportedly pursued Transformers director Michael Bay to helm a Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill before DC Universe's relaunch under James Gunn's new Superman vision.
According to TheWrap, executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy explored developing a standalone Henry Cavill Superman film in 2022, considering Michael Bay as potential director. These discussions occurred before James Gunn and Peter Safran's October 2022 appointment as DC Studios co-heads, marking Warner Bros.' last attempt to continue Cavill's Superman tenure.

The initiative ultimately dissolved, paving the way for Gunn and Safran's DCU reboot. This creative shift led to Cavill's December 2022 departure from the Superman franchise—just two months after the new leadership took charge.
The Superman mantle has since passed to David Corenswet (Pearl, Hollywood), with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in Gunn's fresh take. Still, one can't help but speculate about Bay and Cavill's unrealized collaboration.
Both talents remain actively engaged elsewhere—Cavill with upcoming projects like Voltron and Highlander reboots, while Bay recently released parkour documentary We Are Storror. Despite rumors, Bay denied involvement in the internet-infamous Skibidi Toilet movie adaptation last month.
