"Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Feature Cloud Saves"

Author : Zoe May 02,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest recent concerns among fans. This news comes as a relief following last week's report by IGN, which highlighted a disclaimer suggesting that certain games, including Tears of the Kingdom, might not support Nintendo's cloud save feature.

Initially, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom displayed a notice stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." However, Nintendo has since revised its website to clarify this point. Notably, while the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the updated disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

This revised statement suggests that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2 console, but transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original Switch will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.

Similarly, the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has been updated with the same message, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price point of $449.99. As expected, the response was overwhelming. For those interested, IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide offers further details.
