Civilization 7 is shifting focus from its planned first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback. Discover what this means for the upcoming update and the future roadmap of the game.
Civilization 7 Delays First In-Game Event to Focus on Player Experience

Firaxis Games has announced the postponement of Civilization 7’s first in-game event, Natural Wonder Battle, originally scheduled for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, 2025. Instead, the development team will dedicate additional time to implementing critical quality-of-life enhancements. In a February 28, 2025 update, Firaxis shared a detailed Development Roadmap outlining their priorities, confirming that player experience improvements now take precedence.
Update 1.1.0 will still launch on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a staggered release planned for Nintendo Switch. The decision to delay the event stems from ongoing community feedback, particularly regarding the game’s user interface and overall accessibility. Firaxis acknowledged this, stating, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since early access launched, the community has expressed mixed reactions, with many calling for refinements to the UI and gameplay flow. Firaxis responded, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," and added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
What’s Included in Update 1.1.0

Update 1.1.0 will deliver meaningful changes based on community input. While the full patch notes will be released at launch, Firaxis has previewed key additions and improvements.
Players can look forward to the addition of a new natural wonder—the Bermuda Triangle—available to discover at no cost. The update will also introduce significant UI adjustments, addressing one of the most requested areas for improvement. These changes aim to streamline navigation, enhance readability, and improve overall usability across all platforms.
Additionally, the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path will undergo notable revisions, and AI leaders will demonstrate improved performance when pursuing a Cultural Victory. These adjustments are designed to make late-game progression more balanced and engaging.
Alongside these updates, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Players who own the relevant editions or have purchased the collection separately will receive the content automatically upon installing Update 1.1.0.
Next Major Update Targeted for March 25, 2025

Firaxis has set its sights on a second major update scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date remains subject to change. This update will continue the push toward a more polished experience, with UI improvements remaining a top development priority. According to the team, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, the roadmap includes highly anticipated features such as the “one more turn” option, allowing players to continue past the Modern Age conclusion. Auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and enhanced multiplayer support are also in development.
Firaxis shared, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
