A Quiet Place: Day One Director Takes on Hideo Kojima's Masterpiece
Michael Sarnoski, acclaimed director of A Quiet Place: Day One, has been tapped to write and direct the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' Death Stranding, according to industry reports.
The project will be a collaboration between A24 and Kojima Productions, with Square Peg also producing. Sarnoski brings significant genre experience, having previously directed Nicolas Cage in the critically praised Pig (2021) and currently working on A24's The Death of Robin Hood.
Bridging the Gap Between Game and Film
Details about the adaptation remain scarce, but the source material offers rich potential. The 2019 PlayStation game presents a post-apocalyptic America fractured by supernatural disasters, where protagonist Sam Bridges (originally portrayed by Norman Reedus) must reconnect isolated cities while evading terrifying creatures known as BTs.
Will the Original Cast Return?
The game featured an all-star ensemble including Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley alongside Reedus. Fans eagerly await confirmation about potential casting for the film adaptation.
More Stranding on the Horizon
This announcement comes as Kojima Productions prepares to launch Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, 2025 for PlayStation 5. The sequel expands its cast with new talents including Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning.
The Death Stranding film joins other Kojima-related adaptations in development, including the long-gestating Metal Gear Solid movie. Given the game's cinematic qualities and compelling narrative, this project seems particularly well-suited for translation to the big screen.
