Tony Gilroy, the showrunner behind the critically acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, has hinted at a chilling new direction for the franchise. In a recent interview with Business Insider, Gilroy revealed that Disney is actively developing a Star Wars horror project, stirring excitement and curiosity among fans.

"They're doing that. I think they're doing that,” Gilroy stated, confirming the existence of a horror-themed endeavor within the Star Wars universe. “I think that's in the works, yeah.”

7 ImagesIf these rumors hold true, it could mark a groundbreaking shift for Star Wars, delving deeper into the Dark Side in ways previously unexplored on screen. The nature of this project—whether it will be a series, a film, or another form of media—remains a mystery, as does the creative team behind it. Fans may have to wait years to see this vision come to life, but Gilroy's comments signal that Disney is open to innovative storytelling.

"The right creator, and the right moment, and the right vibe … you can do anything,” Gilroy elaborated, reflecting on his experience with Andor. “So, my hope is that the show connects, and then we can pass along the favor that we were given from 'Mandalorian,' and we can pass along a good healthy backwind to someone else who wants to do something else cool."

For years, the idea of a full-fledged Star Wars horror movie has captivated fans, including Star Wars legend Mark Hamill. While the franchise has typically catered to a broad audience, exploring the darker aspects of its universe in major productions could offer a fresh and thrilling experience. Some existing spinoffs have ventured into darker territory, but a dedicated horror project would be a significant departure.
