Just over six months after its closure by GameStop in August 2024, Game Informer is making a triumphant return, with the entire team back on board. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer's Editor-In-Chief, Matt Miller, announced that Gunzilla Games has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. Gunzilla plans to not only reinstate the editorial team but also extend its reach into production and beyond.
For those new to the scene, Gunzilla Games is the creative force behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game, Off the Grid, currently in Early Access. They are also the minds behind GunZ, a pioneering "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem" designed to enhance community-driven economies within AAA games, including Off the Grid. Adding to their star power, Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 and Chappie, serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder.
Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is committed to maintaining Game Informer as an independent editorial outlet. They strongly support the team's vision of an editorial group that retains full control over content decisions, free from external influence. Consequently, Game Informer now operates under the new entity, Game Informer Inc., and has reinstated its over 30-year legacy after being offline since last August.
In an effort to bridge the gap in coverage, the team has prepared "dozens" of new game reviews released during their hiatus, along with their Best of 2024 awards. Excitingly, Game Informer's beloved print magazine is set to return, with Miller promising it will be "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, expect the introduction of membership and subscription benefits, an expanded range of video, streaming, and feature content, and a broader scope of expert partnerships and perspectives.
