Intergalactic is on fire. After two weeks, criticism of Naughty Dog's trailer has not subsided

The reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet at The Game Awards immediately captivated audiences, yet this initial enthusiasm quickly transformed into widespread criticism.

Controversy erupted primarily over the game's protagonist and central theme, with segments of the gaming community accusing the developers of promoting a specific "agenda."

Statements from Neil Druckmann and Tati Gabriel, intended to quell the backlash, unfortunately backfired, intensifying the dispute.

Seventeen days later, the negative response persists. The announcement trailer significantly divided viewers, amassing a considerable number of "dislikes" on YouTube. On the official PlayStation channel, dislikes surpassed 260,000, dwarfing the 90,000 "likes." The Naughty Dog channel fared no better, with over 170,000 "dislikes" outnumbering the 70,000 "likes." In an effort to contain the escalating criticism, comments on the video were disabled, yet the debate continues unabated across other social media platforms.

Despite this challenging start, the future of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains uncertain. Naughty Dog has a proven track record of transforming negative initial reception into eventual success. The game still has the potential to defy expectations.

This incident, however, underscores a significant challenge faced by large game studios: the increasingly difficult task of managing the expectations of a demanding and vocal audience.
