The developers of inZOI have taken a significant step to address community concerns by announcing the removal of Denuvo DRM from their upcoming game. This decision comes after the discovery of Denuvo in the Creative Studio mode demo, which sparked controversy due to the software's reputation for potentially impacting game performance. Denuvo is an anti-tamper technology aimed at preventing unauthorized copying and distribution of PC games, but it has been a contentious issue among gamers.
inZOI Will No Longer Have Denuvo DRM
inZOI's developer, in a Steam blog post dated March 26, confirmed the removal of Denuvo DRM from the game's Early Access build, set to release on Friday. Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim, the director of inZOI, explained that the initial inclusion of Denuvo was intended to protect the game from illegal distribution and ensure fairness for legitimate players. However, after considering the community's feedback, the team realized that this approach was not in line with their players' expectations.
Kjun apologized for not informing players about Denuvo's inclusion in the Creative Studio mode and acknowledged that while removing DRM could increase the risk of the game being cracked and distributed illegally, it would allow inZOI to be freely configurable. This change would enable players to customize and create their own experiences, fostering innovation and long-lasting enjoyment within the community.
inZOI Being A Highly Moddable Game
The commitment to modding is a core aspect of inZOI's development, and the inclusion of Denuvo was seen as counterproductive to this goal. Kjun reiterated the team's dedication to making inZOI a highly moddable game during the Online Showcase. The first stage of official mod support is scheduled to launch in May, allowing players to use tools like Maya and Blender to create custom content. This is just the beginning, as the team plans to expand mod support to enhance the gaming experience in various ways.
Kjun also mentioned that a separate post would provide more detailed information about modding. Krafton, the game's publisher, continues to prioritize player feedback and make necessary adjustments to ensure a quality gaming experience.
inZOI is slated for an Early Access release on PC on March 28, 2025, with a full launch planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The exact date for the full release remains undisclosed.
