The eagerly awaited dinosaur survival game, Ark 2, is back in the spotlight following rumors of potential delays or cancellation. Developer Studio Wildcard has reignited fan excitement with the announcement of a new expansion for Ark: Survival Ascended, titled Ark: Lost Colony. This expansion serves as a bridge to the upcoming sequel, offering fresh content and a deeper connection to the Ark universe.

Ark: Lost Colony marks the first original expansion pack for the Ark: Survival Ascended remake. The reveal trailer, crafted by the renowned anime studio Mappa (known for hits like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man), features voiceover work by the acclaimed actress Michelle Yeoh. Yeoh reprises her role as Mei Yin from Ark: The Animated Series, adding a familiar voice to the new narrative.

Studio Wildcard promises that Ark: Lost Colony will include several cinematic anime sequences produced by Mappa. According to the official description, the expansion takes players to a new frozen world where they follow Mei Yin on a quest to uncover long-buried secrets of the Ark universe. The expansion introduces thrilling new challenges, including surviving as the hunted in a vast occupied city. Players will also gain access to new character abilities, unique gear, advanced building systems, and exotic tames.

The expansion directly ties into the storylines of Ark's Extinction and Genesis expansions, setting the stage for the events of Ark 2. This connection is crucial for fans eager to see how the narrative evolves into the sequel.

Ark 2 itself is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and follows the successful Ark: Survival Evolved. Initially announced with a 2022 release date at The Game Awards 2020, featuring a surprise cameo by Vin Diesel, the game faced multiple delays. Originally pushed to 2023, it was delayed again to late 2024, planned as an Xbox Series X and S console exclusive, with day-one availability on Game Pass and on PC via Steam and Windows. Despite assurances in December 2023 of a late 2024 release, the timeline slipped, raising concerns among fans. The announcement of Ark: Lost Colony in early 2025 reassures fans that Ark 2 remains in development, though no new release window for the sequel has been provided.

For Ark: Lost Colony, pre-orders begin in June 2025, with immediate access to exclusive preview gameplay content. The full release is scheduled for November 2025, priced at $29.99 for Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
