If you're a fan of horror and sci-fi classics, you're in for a treat. Nearly three decades after its cinematic debut, Paul W.S. Anderson's Event Horizon is set to unravel even more secrets with its highly anticipated prequel. Event Horizon: Dark Descent, a five-issue comic book series from IDW Publishing, promises to dive deep into the chilling events preceding the original film. This gripping narrative will shed light on the fateful journey of the first crew aboard the Event Horizon and the sinister forces that plagued them.

Written by the talented Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness) and illustrated by Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), with vibrant colors by Pip Martin (That Texas Blood) and stunning cover art by Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson, Dark Descent is shaping up to be a visual masterpiece.

In the words of IDW, "Embracing the hard-R rating of the shocking movie, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5 issues) will blast into comic shops this August." Set before the events of the film, this issue offers both new readers and die-hard fans a chilling tale of terror and intrigue. Discover the tragic fate of Captain Kilpack and his crew as they encounter unimaginable horrors in a realm beyond comprehension. Led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, demonic forces unleash unspeakable agony and pure malevolence upon the doomed crew.

"It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously," Ward stated. "I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve. Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again."

"I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people," Ward added. "It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun. Knowing this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."

Play *Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1* will hit shelves on August 20, 2025.
