"Evil Dead: Game Removed from Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

Fans of the beloved action horror franchise were dealt a blow recently as Evil Dead: The Game, the asymmetric multiplayer game launched in 2022, is no longer available for purchase. The game, which was released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, received an 8/10 in IGN's review, praised for its compelling and exhilarating gameplay despite some rough edges. However, despite the subsequent release of a Game of the Year Edition a year later, it failed to boost player engagement significantly. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development ceased, marking the beginning of the end for the game.

Now, three years after its debut, Evil Dead: The Game has been completely removed from digital storefronts by its publisher, Saber Interactive. In a statement on the game's Steam page, the developer confirmed the removal but assured existing owners that the servers would remain active, allowing them to continue enjoying the game. Saber Interactive expressed gratitude to the community, acknowledging the support from both long-time and recent players.

The decision has been met with disappointment, as evidenced by the numerous negative reviews on the game's Steam page. Many players feel that the game is effectively dead now, contributing to its 'mixed' user review rating. Despite this, one player with over 380 hours of gameplay left a positive review, reflecting fondly on their time with the game and acknowledging the end is near.

Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is not slowing down. The studio is currently working on several high-profile licensed movie games, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Additionally, Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 are also in development, promising more exciting content from the studio in the future.
