Neil Druckmann: No Promises on The Last of Us Part 3

Author : Penelope May 04,2025

If you're a fan of The Last of Us eagerly awaiting news on a possible Part 3, you might want to brace yourself. Series creator Neil Druckmann has recently poured cold water on any expectations for a third installment in the video game series.

In a detailed interview with Variety, Druckmann primarily discussed the upcoming The Last of Us TV series. However, when the topic shifted to the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3, Druckmann's response was disheartening:

"I was waiting for this question," he remarked with a sigh. "I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it."

PlayWhether to take Druckmann's words at face value is up for debate. Currently, Naughty Dog is deeply engaged in developing *Intergalactic*, announced at The Game Awards last December. With no release window announced, it's clear that *Intergalactic* is their focus for the foreseeable future, leaving little room for *The Last of Us Part 3*. Druckmann might be playing his cards close to the chest or perhaps genuinely unsure about future plans. Time may alter his stance, or he might be signaling the end of the road for the series.

For fans yearning for more The Last of Us, the television adaptation offers solace, with its second season set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann is uncertain about the number of seasons needed to cover Part 2, an HBO executive suggested in February that four seasons might be the ideal length to complete the story.
