"Netflix Secures Sesame Street's New Episodes Post-HBO Max"

Author : Hunter May 26,2025

Fans of the iconic children's show Sesame Street can breathe a sigh of relief as the beloved series, which has been enchanting audiences since 1969, is set to continue its journey on new platforms. Following the conclusion of its deal with HBO and Max at the end of 2024, Sesame Street will now be available for streaming on both Netflix and PBS. This exciting development ensures that both new and classic episodes will reach a global audience, with new episodes premiering simultaneously on PBS stations and PBS Kids in the United States.

In a strategic move, Netflix, which is expanding its gaming offerings, will also develop video games inspired by Sesame Street and its spinoff, Sesame Street Mecha Builders. This integration aims to enhance the interactive experience for viewers, allowing them to engage with their favorite characters in new and exciting ways through mobile gaming.

The announcement of this new partnership was shared by Sesame Street on their social media channels on May 19, 2025. In their statement, they highlighted the collaborative effort between Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, describing it as a unique public-private partnership that will help children around the world grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. The post, originating from the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the series, celebrated the continuation of a more than 50-year relationship with PBS.

As Sesame Street enters its 56th season, viewers can anticipate some structural changes, including the introduction of an 11-minute story segment per episode. This format shift draws inspiration from other successful character-driven children's shows like Bluey, aiming to deepen the narrative engagement. Alongside these changes, beloved segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will return, ensuring a blend of new and familiar content for fans.

Since its debut in November 1969 and integration into the PBS network in the 1970s, Sesame Street has become a cultural phenomenon. Its partnership with HBO and Max, which began in 2015 with a $35 million deal, ended in late 2024 as the streamer shifted focus away from children's programming. Despite this, the Sesame Street library will remain accessible on HBO and Max until 2027, marking a slight extension of the original agreement but without the production component.
