In the enchanting world of *Fields of Mistria*, Caldarus, the mysterious dragon, becomes a romanceable character with the March 2025 update. This guide will walk you through how to unlock his romance questline, details on special events, and his preferred gifts to deepen your connection.

How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus, you must venture into the mines and break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once you complete the offering, a pivotal cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or face being sealed yourself. As your health diminishes, Caldarus heroically intervenes, transforming into his human form and granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.

With Caldarus in his human form, you can now engage in daily conversations and gift-giving, just like with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. Remember to use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently unlock the Deep Woods area on your map, where Caldarus resides at his temple.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus, he starts with six hearts, which is the current heart level cap. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available for him at this time, but more are expected in future updates. Currently, you'll experience two key cutscenes involving Caldarus: the first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing Mistria’s magic and mechanics, and the second occurs when Caldarus saves you from being sealed after breaking the Fire Seal, revealing his human form and retreating to recover.

Following the March 2025 update, you can also embark on a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival is a cherished end-of-summer event in *Fields of Mistria* where you can take any romanceable NPC with four hearts or higher to the Summit to watch the stars. With Caldarus starting at six hearts, you're guaranteed to share this experience with him. To set up your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This triggers a romantic cutscene at the Summit where Caldarus discusses the stars, the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding, and the nature of connections. The conversation takes a deeper turn as he muses about past lives and the necessity of villains in stories, before inviting you to watch the stars from his temple.
