Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The trend of remaking classic games has captivated the gaming world, with iconic titles such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 receiving modern updates. Adding to this list, Hideki Kamiya, the director of the original Devil May Cry, has shown enthusiasm for remaking his seminal work.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel dated May 8, Kamiya addressed fans' queries about potential remakes and sequels. When posed with the idea of remaking Devil May Cry, he responded affirmatively, stating, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the game evolved significantly from its initial concept, leading Capcom to rebrand it as Devil May Cry.
As we approach the 25th anniversary of its release, Kamiya reminisced about the game's creation. He shared a personal story, explaining that the game was born out of a period of personal turmoil after a breakup in 2000. This emotional catalyst fueled the development of Devil May Cry.
Kamiya admitted that he rarely revisits his completed projects, including Devil May Cry. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay footage, he acknowledges the game's age and its vintage design elements. If given the opportunity to remake it, Kamiya would start from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While these thoughts are not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya is prepared to dive into the project if it becomes a reality. He confidently assured Capcom, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."
Beyond Devil May Cry, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. With these insights, fans of Kamiya's work are eagerly anticipating potential remakes of these cherished titles in the near future.
