The newly released Ratatan gameplay trailer, showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, provides fans with an exciting look at the game's core mechanics. Developed by Ratatan Works, the trailer highlights the game's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, featuring a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab.
Ratatan combines the essence of rhythm games with side-scrolling action, promising a dynamic gameplay experience. One of the standout features is the online co-op mode, which supports up to four players. Additionally, players can control up to 100 characters in epic melee battles, adding depth and variety to the gameplay.
The game is being crafted by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, with the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi contributing to the soundtrack. Ratatan's successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 not only reached but surpassed its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on various consoles.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to an update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan's closed beta is set to commence on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the producer of Ratatan, shared insights on the game's progress and upcoming milestones.
Sakajiri announced that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on their Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. Despite these achievements, the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team's priority is the closed beta test. The focus is now on enhancing the demo for the Steam Next festival scheduled for June.
During the closed beta, players can expect to explore up to Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively throughout the month-long test period. Sakajiri also noted that details about code distribution, the start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once they are finalized.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this promising title.
