Baldur's Gate 3 remains incredibly replayable even eighteen months after launch, with fans still engrossed in their second, third, or even tenth playthroughs. Now that developer Larian Studios has stepped away from the franchise, Hasbro faces the challenge of determining Baldur's Gate's future. Fortunately, we won't have to wait too long for updates.
During an interview with IGN at this week's Game Developers Conference, Hasbro's SVP of Digital Games Dan Ayoub revealed that multiple parties have expressed strong interest in continuing the Baldur's Gate legacy following Larian's departure.
"We're currently finalizing our plans for the franchise's next steps," Ayoub explained. "And actually, we'll have some exciting announcements regarding Baldur's Gate in the very near future."
While Ayoub didn't specify whether these upcoming reveals involve a full Baldur's Gate sequel or another crossover akin to the Magic: The Gathering collaboration, he confirmed his personal desire for Baldur's Gate 4 - while acknowledging its development would require significant time.
"It's admittedly a challenging position," he admitted. "But we're approaching this carefully - there's no need to rush. We're exploring multiple creative directions and beginning to prepare some announcements."
Ayoub emphasized the tremendous pressure to deliver worthy successors, noting this expectation extends beyond Baldur's Gate to all Dungeons & Dragons gaming projects, including Hasbro's 2023 announcement.

"I welcome creative challenges," Ayoub stated. "We've seen our teams push boundaries and develop innovative concepts precisely because they recognize the need to surpass previous standards. That continuous improvement remains our goal across all projects."
Our conversation with Ayoub also covered Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro's collaboration with Saber Interactive, and broader gaming strategy. Stay tuned for the complete interview publishing next week.
