Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Hits 114K Peak, Slammed for Performance

Author : Amelia Oct 31,2025

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has surged to 114,000+ concurrent players on Steam, becoming one of the most successful non-FromSoftware Soulslike launches to date.

The game currently ranks as Steam's eighth most-played title by concurrent players, breaking the 100,000 player mark with a peak of 114,132 players in the last day. For context, SteamDB data shows Lies of P previously peaked around 30,000, Lords of the Fallen at 43,075, and The First Berserker: Khazan below 33,000.

While concurrent players don't reflect success across all platforms, they offer strong initial insight into a game's reception.

Despite its strong launch numbers, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers debuted with "Overwhelmingly Negative" Steam reviews before improving slightly to "Mostly Negative." Players cite severe performance problems, a "soulless" protagonist, and unrefined combat mechanics. Currently, only 21% of over 6,500 reviews are positive.

"I truly wanted to like this game," wrote one disappointed player. "After checking the negative reviews, I can confirm their technical complaints are valid. The performance issues are so severe they overshadow moments of enjoyable combat I experienced during the tutorial boss fight."

"UE5 games frequently struggle with optimization, and this one unfortunately continues that trend," added another critic. "A free demo would help players assess performance before purchase."

Some players report better experiences: "My rig runs the game smoothly with no crashes or stuttering," shared a satisfied reviewer. "This makes the negative reviews seem unfair - many appear to come from players with underpowered systems."

Set in late Ming Dynasty China, this Soulslike ARPG casts players as a plague-stricken warrior unraveling secrets in the collapsing Shu kingdom. Supernatural foes and environmental storytelling create a dark historical fantasy setting.

In our 8/10 review, we praised Wuchang's combat system, world design, skill progression, and boss encounters while noting occasional difficulty spikes and ambush-heavy encounters that sometimes feel unfair.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched today (July 24, 2025) for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam/Epic. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can access it through Microsoft's day-one Game Pass inclusion.
