Rumor: Switch 2 Won’t Be Compatible With Vital Accessory

Nintendo Switch 2: Power Up with a New Cable?

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a significant power upgrade, potentially rendering the original Switch's charging cable incompatible. While the console's design reportedly mirrors its predecessor, a 60W power cord is allegedly needed for optimal charging.

Several leaks have surfaced, offering glimpses – albeit unverified – of the new console. Holiday season leaks included purported images of the Switch 2, reinforcing the idea of a design similar to the original, but with enhancements. Images of magnetic Joy-Con controllers further fueled speculation about their tablet mode functionality.

A recent leak from journalist Laura Kate Dale, citing a BlueSky source (via VGC), showcases a purported Switch 2 charging dock. This leak also claims the Switch 2 will include a 60W charger, implying the original Switch's charger won't provide sufficient power. While charging with the older cable might be possible, it's likely to be inefficient, making a 60W cable the recommended option.

Charging Cable Compatibility Concerns

Numerous other rumors surround the Switch 2, including details about developer kits and potential game titles like a new Mario Kart and Monolith Soft's Project X Zone. The console's graphical capabilities are rumored to rival the PlayStation 4 Pro, though some sources suggest a slightly lower performance level.

Although the Switch 2 will ship with its own charger, the incompatibility with the original Switch's cable presents a potential issue for users. Should gamers misplace their Switch 2 charger, using the older, lower-wattage cable is discouraged, assuming the leak's accuracy. Nintendo's official reveal, expected by March 2025, will clarify these details.
