Dune: Awakening has surpassed 1 million copies sold within just two weeks.
Developer Funcom announced today that following a stellar launch and a "very positive" user rating on Steam, over 1 million players have "awakened," making it Funcom's fastest-selling game in history.
"Dune: Awakening launched on June 10, and 1,000,000 players have awakened!" the studio stated. "It is now Funcom's fastest-selling game ever. To provide context, Conan Exiles took a full year to reach this figure. We are deeply humbled and thankful for this reception. It should also be mentioned that you certainly aren't living up to your title, as you've been highly active since launch.
"The launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we are still riding that powerful gale. We have observed so many incredible moments from all of you—base building, close encounters with Shai-Hulud, epic vehicle jumps, struggles, discoveries, victories, heroic deaths, and much more... We salute you, Sleepers."
Within hours of release, Funcom's survival RPG reached over 142,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform and set a new record last weekend with 189,333 players. We rated Dune: Awakening 8/10 in our review, noting: "Dune: Awakening is an exceptional survival MMO that masterfully captures Frank Herbert's sci-fi world, mostly to its benefit though occasionally to its drawback. The progression from a dehydrated peasant to a powerful warlord on Arrakis is rewarding at almost every turn, and the story and worldbuilding filled this fan with pure delight.
"However, Awakening still has room for improvement, as its combat never fully finds its rhythm, the endgame is somewhat chaotic and not particularly worthwhile, and several technical bugs remain to be addressed. Yet, even these shortcomings feel insignificant compared to the monumental successes of this survival game."
Funcom is already "formulating a plan" to enhance PvP in the Deep Desert, an area players have previously called "toxic" due to griefing. Funcom has already removed the ability for players to crush others with their Ornithopter, but senior game director Viljar Sommerbakk also shared that the team is considering further tweaks to Ornis, such as equipping them with rockets that "reduce overall maneuverability and top speed."
