In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Ed Boon, the co-founder of Mortal Kombat, shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will distinctly portray Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the creative efforts of the MK1 development team to ensure that these two powerhouse characters feel unique and engaging to players.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During his conversation with IGN, Boon addressed the community's concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between Homelander and Omni-Man. He reassured fans that the developers are taking a thoughtful approach to differentiate the heroes by uniquely splitting their abilities. This strategy aims to make players feel as though they are controlling two distinctly different characters.
Boon highlighted the creative liberty they have with these characters, stating, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that." This approach ensures that each character maintains a unique identity within the game.
Further detailing the development process, Boon explained how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. He stressed the importance of making their main attacks significantly different to dispel any notions that they might be mere duplicates. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'" This commitment to diversity in gameplay is set to enrich the experience for Mortal Kombat 1 players.
