This week, Capcom released an in-depth data analysis report for Monster Hunter Wilds. Officially titled "The Forbidden Lands White Paper 1," the Japanese-language document examines player behavior following the game's April 4th update, revealing strong preferences regarding in-game cuisine.
The April 4th update not only introduced new quests and monsters, but also added the Grand Hub - a social space where players can meet. The Hub features a canteen where players can exchange Meal Vouchers for regional dishes from across The Forbidden Lands. These meals provide various combat buffs, allowing hunters to prepare for co-op quests conveniently without traveling to specific regions. Meal Vouchers can be obtained through daily login bonuses or Arena quest rewards.
According to Automaton Japan's report, the Forbidden Lands White Paper 1 shows usage statistics for all four regional Meal Vouchers. Spring Kunafa Cuisine dominated with 87.8% of voucher redemptions, followed distantly by Fresh Sild Cuisine (8.2%), Colorful Suja Cuisine (3.5%), and Hot Azuz Cuisine trailing with just 0.5%.
The report explains Spring Kunafa's overwhelming popularity: players received five free Kunafa vouchers with the April 4th update, which many redeemed immediately. The cuisine offers three possible buffs, with the 'Defender Meal (Hi)' being particularly valuable - drastically reducing monster attack damage during difficult hunts.
With other regional vouchers distributed less equally, this likely explains Sild, Suja and Azuz cuisine's limited usage. More telling are Pick-a-Meal Voucher statistics, which better reflect genuine player preferences.
These versatile vouchers let players choose any regional dish, resulting in a completely different ranking: Hot Azuz Cuisine led at 41.3%, followed by Colorful Suja Cuisine (28.3%), Spring Kunafa Cuisine (19%), and Fresh Sild Cuisine (12%).
Monster Hunter Wilds Weapons Tier List
The white paper suggests players favor Azuz dishes for their 'Tumbler Meal (Hi)' buff, which significantly enhances evasion. This particularly benefits bow users, as successful dodges fill their Trick Arrow Gauge. The second-choice Colorful Suja Cuisine caters to aggressive playstyles with its 'Caprice Meal (Hi)' (random attack boosts) and 'Exploiter Meal' (increased rewards from wounding monsters), plus the entertaining visual of giant sushi rolls.
While meal choices clearly relate to buff benefits, players have found humor in the data suggesting Sild Cuisine's unpopularity. Most Monster Hunter Wilds food appears delectable, with Kunafa's banquet cutscenes reportedly causing cheese naan shortages at Nepalese restaurants in Japan due to player cravings.
Sild's location in Wyveria's desolate ruins results in much simpler fare - featuring unripe-looking produce like white tomatoes and raw garlic. This starkly contrasts other regions' lavish feasts, leading players to label Sild cuisine "unappetizing," as seen in this Reddit discussion:

Capcom plans to release future White Papers, making it interesting to track whether eating habits evolve. Monster Hunter Wilds recently launched its May 28th update, introducing Street Fighter's Akuma - here's what's new in Version 1.011.
