Wartorn is the latest creation from Stray Kite Studios, a team of seasoned industry veterans based in Dallas, Texas. With a team of around 30 employees by 2025, the studio is known for its work on projects like the standalone version of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure and various Creative maps for Fortnite. Founded in 2018, Stray Kite Studios is now ready to launch its first original game, Wartorn, on PC in spring 2025.
Wartorn blends real-time strategy with roguelite elements, set in a fantasy world where two elven sisters embark on a perilous journey to reunite with their family. This narrative-driven game will challenge players with tough battles and morally complex decisions.
Wartorn Is Chaotic in More Than One Way
The world of Wartorn is steeped in chaos, reflecting the game's theme of finding purpose amidst turmoil. One of the game's standout features is its dynamic, physics-driven environmental destruction, which ensures that no two encounters are the same. "We’ve poured our hearts into creating a game that not only entertains but also makes players think deeply about sacrifice, survival, and the bonds that unite us," said Paul Hellquist, co-founder and creative director at Stray Kite Studios.
Wartorn Will Require Players To Make Tough Decisions
Between combat sessions, players will face difficult choices such as deciding who to feed or rescue from peril. These decisions will shape the story and enhance the uniqueness of each playthrough. In combat, players can harness a versatile magic system, mixing elemental forces like fire, water, and lightning for strategic advantages, such as shocking enemies in water or igniting tar-covered foes.
As a roguelite, Wartorn includes a progression system where upgrades carry over between runs, easing subsequent attempts at completing the journey. The game's visuals boast a painterly aesthetic, adding depth and drama to its setting. To ensure accessible gameplay, Wartorn allows players to slow down the action, enabling precise command inputs amidst the chaos.
Set for an early access release in spring 2025, Wartorn will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
