MindsEye Dev Racing to Improve Performance Post-Steam Reviews

Author : Eleanor Dec 17,2025

The MindsEye development team acknowledged performance issues raised by Steam reviewers and confirmed ongoing optimization efforts.

Build A Rocket Boy's inaugural release debuted June 10th with 'Mixed' Steam reviews and peaked at 3,302 concurrent players. Critical feedback highlights significant PC performance challenges, alongside reports of bugs, glitches, and unusual NPC behavior.

The studio responded via Reddit, confirming its engineers are prioritizing performance enhancements. Patch 3 details will be announced shortly.

The complete statement reads:

We deeply appreciate our day-one pioneers! While current hardware demands are substantial, our team is implementing Unreal Engine V5.6 optimizations for mainstream systems and consoles. Expect Patch 3 timing within 24 hours. We'd also welcome feedback on Build.Mindseye beyond the main campaign.

MindsEye's path to launch proved challenging under former Rockstar North veteran Leslie Benzies. Build A Rocket Boy previously advised against early playthroughs after premature copies surfaced.

"We're committed to synchronous narrative experiences without bias," the studio stated regarding early access. "This requires waiting for official release."

References to bias revived discussion around co-CEO Mark Gerhard's prior claims about orchestrated smear campaigns via social media bots.

When questioned by IGN, IO Interactive's Hakan Abrak responded: "This seems improbable. The game's quality will become evident upon release."

Physical editions required substantial day-one patches for optimal character performance and core gameplay refinements.

The simultaneous departure of Build A Rocket Boy's Chief Legal and Financial Officers shortly before launch raised community concerns.

Steam metrics represent only part of MindsEye's player base, with additional communities on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.

Priced at $59.99, MindsEye delivers a narrative campaign, free-roam mode, and varied missions including "Destruction Site Shootout" horde battles and combat scenarios. Premium pass holders receive exclusive cosmetics and additional missions.

The studio promises monthly premium content updates featuring new missions, challenges, and assets: "Our ongoing development combined with community creations will sustain MindsEye's evolution for years."

The confirmed 2025 roadmap includes summer community updates, fall multiplayer modes, and winter free-roam enhancements, with premium members receiving bonus content throughout.
